The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America recently awarded grant funding to Goddard House in Brookline to bring Opening Minds Through Art, an intergenerational art-making program for older adults living with dementia, to underserved communities in the Boston area.
Building on success introducing and piloting OMA at the Goddard House assisted living memory support neighborhood in 2016, Goddard House Community Initiatives will use the $6,000 AFA grant to help launch its OMA in the Community program to help increase arts equity and access to underserved Boston-area older adults living with dementia. A priority is to provide OMA programs, preferably in English and Spanish, to nursing homes, adult daycare providers and other elder care organizations. ....

Goddard House To Help Underserved Adults Through Art

BROOKLINE, MA For the past five years The Goddard House assisted living home has been helping older adults living with dementia express creativity through a program called Opening Minds Through Art. The award-winning intergenerational program pairs younger people with those diagnosed with memory loss and focuses on creativity.
It s built connections and had therapeutic benefits for people living with memory loss.
Now, through a grant from the Alzheimer s Foundation of America, Goddard House plans to expand its program to help older adults living with dementia in under served communities nearby in Boston.

The First Dose: Residents, Staff of Mount Pleasant Home, Goddard House Receive COVID-19 Vaccine – Jamaica Plain Gazette

Jamaica Plain’s Mount Pleasant Home was among the first residential care homes in the state to vaccinate its residents and staff at a clinic on January 13.
The facility was founded in 1901 as “an independent nonprofit residential care home serving seniors age 62 and older,” according to Mount Pleasant Home, and has a capacity of 60 units.

Mount Pleasant Home Executive Director Kathy Seaman wrote that the facility has “taken extraordinary steps since the beginning of the pandemic to prevent the spread of infection, including limiting visits, halting community dining and group activities, sanitizing surfaces frequently, and screening staff and residents for symptoms of COVID-19.” ....
