MMF signs historic agreement with federal government

The Manitoba Métis Self-Government Recognition and Implementation Agreement was signed on the site of the Upper Fort Garry Heritage Provincial Park in downtown Winnipeg on Tuesday by MMF President David Chartrand, and Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett, who appeared at the announcement virtually due to current COVID-19 restrictions.

OTTAWA Indigenous leaders will visit the Vatican later this year to press for a papal apology for the Catholic Church’s role in residential schools.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops said Indigenous leaders will visit the Vatican between Dec. 17 and 20 to meet with Pope Francis and “foster meaningful encounters of dialogue and healing.”
