I almost felt like it was an honor system test to see if anyone would take it, but one day I snapped and decided to keep it. Alpha Fire Company was dispatched at 12:17 a.m. for a report of a fire inside an apartment at the Americana House, 119 Locust Lane. According to Centre County dispatch, a couch was on fire and the blaze spread inside the apartment. Boalsburg Fire Company was dispatched at 12:23 a.m., along with Centre LifeLink EMS. By 12:50 a.m., no flames were visible from the building but State College police asked the crowd assembled outside to move back, and just after 1 a.m. told them to move to McAllister Street. It was not immediately known why the crowd was being moved from the area. ....

UK variant discovered at University of Pittsburgh and Penn State campuses The University of Pittsburgh ordered students to shelter in place after a large outbreak of COVID-19 cases last week. The number of active infections rose to 76 among staff and students, with 72 infections recorded in the last week alone. The total number of infections at the university now stands at over 1,060 for students and 207 for faculty and staff. In a statement last week by the COVID-19 Medical Response Office (CMRO), the university noted that the rise in cases is likely tied to the rise in the surrounding community. The five-day moving average rose to 8.6 per day last week, mirroring the broader community trends in Allegheny County. Both the county and the university are reporting an average of 30 cases per 100,000 each day, one of the highest rates of infection in Pennsylvania. ....
