St. Matthews to have back-to-school giveaway

With the beginning of school just around the corner, St. Matthew Baptist Church will continue a long-held tradition to provide schools supplies to local children at an event in early August.
The church s 16th annual back-to-school drive will be from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 7 while supplies last at the church at 412 Dallas St.
Pastor Doris Smith said St. Matthew was not able to hold the event last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year, members are happy they can return to the tradition.
Face masks are required at the event on Aug. 7, Smith said.
Smith estimated church members will give away about 200 backpacks with school supplies provided according to grade level.  ....
