Resting place of Paeroa captain killed in WWI discovered 103 years later


Captain Ernest Charles Parry, of Paeroa, was killed on October 6, 1917, during the Battle of Passchendaele.
After 103 years lying unknown in a WWI grave in Belgium, a Paeroa soldier will finally have his name added to his headstone.
And in a further twist to the now-solved mystery of Captain Ernest Charles Parry, it’s been revealed his son also suffered a similar fate with his body also lost in action later in WWII.
The Parry family’s wartime saga of sacrifice and loss comes to light weeks out from Anzac Day thanks to the dogged work of New Zealand Army researchers who combed records to identify his final resting place a world away from his Hauraki hometown. ....
