Franklin Chamber's Annual Meeting, State of City Address is Thursday

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin Chamber of Commerce presents its annual meeting this Thursday, March 11, at noon, and it will feature Mayor Steve Barnett as he delivers the Franklin State of the City Address.
Community awards will also be presented, including those for Business Hall of Fame, Community Service, and Community Impact.
Due to COVID-19, the annual meeting and State of the City Address will be pre-recorded and virtual this year.

Local communities get $4.1M in state road grants

The county will receive more than $4 million in state money to help repair roads next year in most of its cities and towns, but a majority of the funding will go to Center Grove area neighborhoods.
Johnson County communities will receive $4.1 million in Community Crossing grants for 2021 road projects, the state announced last week.
About half of the $4.1 million will go to repairing streets in White River Township subdivisions that have aging concrete roads. All of Greenwood and Johnson County’s $1 million shares will be spent in those neighborhoods.
City and county officials say the subdivision work will repair some of the worst areas in many subdivisions with aging infrastructure. Both of the projects will convert the streets to asphalt, simplifying future maintenance. ....

With 36 of the state’s 92 counties in “red,” indicating severe community spread, Gov. Eric Holcomb said “the state of Indiana is on fire” during his weekly coronavirus update Wednesday. Counties in the “red” have a positivity rate of more than 15% and more than 100 cases per 100,000 residents, according to the state’s metrics.
In response to the uptick of counties in “red,” Holcomb announced a few new measures in an effort to slow the spread.
Hospitals in the state are asked to postpone non-emergency, in-patient surgeries scheduled between next Wednesday and Jan. 3. Holcomb and Dr. Kristina Box, state health commissioner, said this move will free up occupied beds, ease the stress on critical care units and help reduce the number of hospitals on diversion. ....
