California lawmaker wants to outlaw gun and ammo shows on state property, fairgrounds

Feb. 23 A Southern California Democrat hopes Gov. Gavin Newsom will ban all guns and ammo sales on all state property, a move that would effectively end firearms shows at dozens of local fairs across the state.
Newly-elected California State Sen. Dave Min, D-Irvine, introduced SB 264, which would prohibit a state employee or operator of state-owned property, from contracting for, authorizing, or allowing the sale of any firearm or ammunition. The bill makes an exception for gun buy-back programs.
The evidence is overwhelmingly clear more guns lead to more violence, the senator s office said in a statement. Gun violence splinters families and communities, and I am hopeful my colleagues will see taxpayers dollars have no place in funding the proliferation of gun sales and heartbreak. ....

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The New Mexico State Fair once again has been recognized for excellence in the industry, both before and during the pandemic.
The International Association of Fairs and Expositions, and the Western Fairs Association recently honored the New Mexico State Fair with five First-Place awards and four Second-Place awards in a host of categories.
Among the awards presented were those for video at home activities, innovative use of technology in agriculture, virtual fairs, online competitions, virtual livestock auctions and sales, and state fair wellness drives for vaccines, blood drives and food distribution. ....

The Tri-County Fair has won the fair industry’s most coveted award, The Merrill Award, given by the Western Fairs Association (WFA) highlighting the Fair’s leadership and commitment to community excellence.
The Fair’s Drive-In and Tailgate Entertainment Venue took home the prestigious award. The Merrill Award is given to fairs that clearly demonstrate innovation, vision, creative management, excellence in marketing and commitment to community.
Jen McGuire, the Fairground’s CEO stated, “This is the Oscars of the Fair Industry. Bishop has never been nominated let alone brought home this award. It’s quite an honor. ”
