Province/feds invest $9.8 million in ag research

“Saskatchewan’s agriculture sector has incredible growth potential and this targeted investment will help our producers and agri-businesses innovate to continue to deliver what the world needs,” Moe said. “This investment supports the bold goals in the Saskatchewan Growth Plan that will see our crop production increase to 45 million tonnes, agriculture exports increase to $20 billion and value-added revenue increase to $10 billion.”
Support for ADF projects is awarded on a competitive basis to researchers looking to examine areas of importance to Saskatchewan producers.

Saskatchewan and feds announce $9.8 million for ag research

Moe spoke of his experience in getting a degree in agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan, and of farming near Shellbrook. He said it was an important investment in one of the most important industries. He noted the development of lentils, as an example.
“I can tell you that I have very deep appreciation of how crucial crop science and research is to not, only Canadian agriculture, but also Saskatchewan agriculture. And I would say further, to the world,” Moe said.
Last year Saskatchewan produced its second-largest crop on record, at just over 39 million tonnes, and that it is now routine to produce over 30 million tonnes per year, Moe said. ....

Western Grains Research Foundation of Saskatoon provides support to University of Alberta

The Saskatoon-based Western Grains Research Foundation has announced support of 284 thousand dollars for the University of Alberta Breton Plots.
Board chair Dr. Keith Degenhardt says the Foundation has a priority to build agriculture research capacity at Canadian public research institutions.
Operating for 90 years, the University of Alberta plots are one of the longest running crop rotation trials in North America.
The funding will help purchase of a plot combine and tractor and build equipment storage.
The Western Grains Research Foundation is the largest farmer-funded and directed non-profit organization of field crop research in Canada.
The Foundation is projecting over 53 million dollars of research funding over the next 4 years for newd and ongoing initiatives. ....

USask leads Canada's medical universities in research income growth

“Our record research investment, combined with moving up three places in these rankings to 11th place overall, is a sign of our growing research momentum and a credit to the stellar work of our researchers, particularly in areas related to our signature areas of food and water security, synchrotron sciences, and One Health-related infectious disease research,” said USask Vice-President Research Karen Chad.
