Oregon now has second highest rate of infection

Oregon now has second highest rate of infection

Oregon is now second in the nation for new COVID-19 infections, after months of keeping its levels lower than most other states, and its hospitalization rates in several counties are close to triggering a renewed ban on indoor dining and other high-risk activities, Gov. Kate Brown has announced.
At a press conference on Friday, Brown warned, “In the race between vaccines and variants, right now the variants have the upper hand.”
She said several counties are “on the verge of having to reinstate extreme risk restrictions on businesses and activities.” As of Friday, however, Yamhill County, which is in the high risk category, was not among them. ....

SAN DIEGO San Diego County public health officials have reported 144 new COVID-19 infections, as all county-hosted coronavirus vaccine sites began offering walk-up, no-appointment-required vaccinations. The county will also continue to offer vaccination appointments that can be scheduled online.
Also Tuesday, use of Johnson & Johnson vaccinations resumed in the county, after being temporarily paused earlier this month while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration studied adverse reactions in a small number of recipients.
The FDA concluded Friday that the benefits of the single-dose vaccine outweigh its risks and approved it for emergency use. Following the subsequent findings of the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup, the California D ....

Bay Area Man Treated for Rare Blood Clot After Receiving J&J Vaccine

Bay Area Man Treated for Rare Blood Clot After Receiving J&J Vaccine
UCSF officials on Monday said a Bay Area man in his early 30s is recuperating from treatment for a blood clot that formed after he received the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine.
The man went to the hospital with severe pain in his leg and lower back last week, 13 days after getting his J&J shot, according to UCSF officials. Dr. Andrew Leavitt, a hematologist at the hospital, said he thinks this is the first reported male case in the U.S.
As of Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had reported the condition in 15 people, all women, among the 8 million doses that have been administered nationally. It involves clots that occur together with low levels of blood-clotting platelets. It’s unclear, though, if there’s a connection between the vaccine and the clotting. ....

Humboldt County Public Health reported it has confirmed 68 new cases since Friday, continuing a surge that saw 130 cases recorded last week, the most in a single week since early February.
Today s cases were reported after laboratories processed 559 samples with a test-positivity rate of 12.2 percent. Public Health also reported four new hospitalizations today.
The 130 new cases last week were up from 71 the prior week, which itself was a doubling of the week before. And as case counts have risen in recent weeks, so has the county s test-positivity rate.
Public Health urges all residents who think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 or who are experiencing symptoms to get tested, with a wide variety of no-cost options. ....
