PRRD to recommend renewal of 911 service in First Nations communities


For First Nations communities to qualify for funding from Indigenous Services Canada, they need a current agreement with a service provider. The deadline to request funding this year from ISC is July 30th.
The proposed agreement is for a one-year term starting January 1st, 2022, with the option to extend the term for another year.
The report states that staff will work with First Nations partners to examine and review the cost of the service and make adjustments to the funding formula if needed.
Based on the 2018 service rates, Blueberry River First Nations would pay $951, Doig River First Nation would pay $719, West Moberly First Nations would pay $706, Halfway River First Nation would pay $858, and Saulteau First Nations would pay $1579. ....

Some 481 of the approximately 600 permits required for Site C “have been received and are actively being managed,” according to Hydro’s latest progress report to the B.C. Utilities Commission.
Ninety of the 120 or so permits that remain to be issued are provincial, the rest federal. Some are critical, including those needed to proceed with filling the reservoir and completing construction of the generating station.
“All future permits are anticipated to be issued in accordance with the project construction schedule,” says Hydro.
Not clear how that can be squared with Burke’s edict that government and its agencies cannot continue to “authorize activities that breach the promises included in the treaty.” ....
