Moderna vaccine starts to be rolled out in Wales
The third Covid-19 vaccine is being rolled-out across Wales from today with patients in Carmarthenshire becoming the first in the UK to receive it.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorised the Moderna vaccine as safe and effective in January 2021 following stringent clinical trials.
Supplies arrived in Wales yesterday with 5,000 doses being sent to vaccination centres in the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.
The first doses will be administered at the West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen today.
The Moderna vaccine is a two dose vaccine given at an interval of between four and 12 weeks. ....

Britain's Moderna vaccine rollout begins: 5,000 doses will be given out in Wales TODAY


The first doses of the Moderna Covid vaccine will be given to patients in Wales from today.
Jabs will be given out at West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen in what has been hailed as another key milestone in the fight against coronavirus. 
Five thousand doses of the vaccine were also sent to vaccination centres in the Hywel Dda University Health Board area on Tuesday. 
The US-made vaccine is due to be rolled out in Scotland in the coming days with England giving its first shots before the end of April. 
The UK has bought 17 million doses of the Moderna jab – enough for 8.5 million people. People will initially receive 100,000 jabs and the number of doses administered will increase significantly in May and June.  ....

The first doses of the Moderna vaccine will be administered in the UK on Wednesday as a minister insisted there will be enough jabs to offer all adults their first dose by July.
The first doses will be administered at West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen, the Welsh Government said. Five thousand doses of the vaccine were sent to vaccination centres in the Hywel Dda University Health Board area on Wednesday.
Nadhim Zahawi, the vaccines minister, said the jabs will be deployed widely around the third week of April with more volume expected by May. ....

The UK’s vaccination programme must continue if the country is to emerge from lockdown, a member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has said, as investigations continue into potential links between the AstraZeneca jab and blood clots.
Professor Adam Finn, from the University of Bristol and a member of the JCVI, said it was vital to keep vaccines going as society opens up, in order to help stave off rising infection rates.
It comes as the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) are expected to give updates on their investigations into whether the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is directly causing rare brain blood clots. ....
