Camp Roberts could house 5,000 migrant children.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Biden administration has told Central Coast leaders they may house around five thousand migrant children at Camp Roberts in Northern San Luis Obispo county. That s according to San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg.
The decision is not final, but federal officials have been in communication with San Luis Obispo county leaders this week.
I think everything is under review, Ortiz-Legg said. Not from our office, obviously. This is the Federal Government s decision. This is Federal Government property. We just happen to be the host county of a Federal Government facility. That facility is being looked at as possibly a place where they could send up to five thousand children. I think that likely, if it does happen, it will be done in small increments at a time. Anything of this logistical nature takes a lot of planning and execution to be able to do it right. ....

SAN LUIS OBISPO The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors held a regularly scheduled meeting on May 4 from 9 a.m until 11:35 p.m. The meeting opened with public comment, which focused mainly on item 13, the request for the Board of Supervisors to sign and send a letter to the State Water Resource Control Board opposing two applications to appropriate water for the Shandon-San Juan Water District.
Supervisor Bruce Gibson moved for approval of the consent agenda with exception of item 13. His discussion on item 13 indicated that there was not enough information on the item for the Board to make a decision and should be tabled for future discussion. ....

Supervisor Ortiz-Legg appoints new planning commissioner, legislative aide


–District 3 Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg has appointed decorated U.S. Army veteran Kristina Spearman to serve as a county planning commissioner and Central Coast native Aidan Beals to serve as the District 3 legislative aide.
Spearman begins her term this month, serving on the county’s five-member planning commission. The commission reviews and approves tract maps, conditional use permits, and variances and makes land-use recommendations to the board of supervisors.
Spearman is a decorated U.S. Army veteran with 20 years of senior-level federal service experience in planning and policy under the Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations and within the U.S. Senate. Spearman has a master’s degree in public policy from American University, and is a graduate of the Harvard School of Public Health and Kennedy School of Government.
