NORWICH The operators of Norwich Farm Creamery have stayed on past the June 30 end of their lease with Vermont Technical College, and the college’s president said Thursday that efforts are underway to push them out.
“We are pursuing the legal measures that we have available to us to ensure that our tenant moves on,” Moulton said. She declined to specify what those measures might include. ....

Valley News - Norwich creamery owners sue Vermont Tech over farm sale

Norwich creamery owners sue Vermont Tech over farm sale

NORWICH  The owners of Norwich Farm Creamery are suing the Vermont State Colleges System for $500,000 as it tries to sell a farm they currently occupy.
Chris Gray and Laura Brown allege that state college leaders lied about their intentions for the property when forming a business partnership with the couple, undermined the venture and didn’t give their cheesemaking operation the time it needed to get off the ground.
Gray and Brown filed the lawsuit in Vermont Superior Court in Washington County on May 14 just after Vermont Technical College a subsidiary of the state college system rejected the Norwich Farm Foundation’s fourth attempt to buy the property. The foundation was formed by community members to support the couple’s attempt to stay put and to ensure the land is not further developed.  ....

Vermont Farmers and Community Rally To Save Creamery

Operators of a value-added dairy in Vermont’s peaceful Upper Valley are battling to save their farm-based business, with help from residents who value its fresh, local products and want to preserve the area’s rich agricultural heritage.
In 2015, the 200-year-old Norwich Farm was donated to Randolph, Vermont.-based Vermont Technical College, which invested considerable money for dairy processing equipment and launched an ill-fated educational program that ceased a year later, after one semester.
Chris Gray and his wife, Laura Brown, run Norwich Farm Creamery at the farm under a lease with the school that expires in late June. They’re backed by the non-profit Norwich Farm Foundation that’s trying to raise enough money to purchase the 6-acre property, keep the creamery on site, and have the farm host diverse agricultural uses including a training facility for young farmers. ....

Lebanon axes plan for athletic fields behind former Kmart
Modified: 4/14/2021 9:25:25 PM
WEST LEBANON The city is scrapping a proposal to build playing fields on a 20-acre wooded property behind the former Kmart in West Lebanon after conservation officials took issue with the idea during a meeting last week.
Members of the Lebanon Conservation Commission worried that building playing fields would require the city to cut down trees and could contribute to future flooding.
The parcel situated at the confluence of the Connecticut and Mascoma rivers should remain largely undisturbed so it can serve as a wildlife habitat and hiking and fishing spot, they said. ....
