Peoria region sees lowest COVID positivity rate since July 22
PEORIA Five COVID-19 deaths and 164 new cases were reported in Peoria by public health officials on Wednesday; however, the multi-county region that includes Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties is now reporting its lowest COVID positivity rate in about seven months.
All five deaths were from Peoria County a man in his 60s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 60s, none of whom lived in long-term care facilities. The other two deaths were a woman in her 80s who lived at Cornerstone Rehabilitation & Health Care and a woman, also in her 80s, who lived at Lutheran Hillside Village. No information was provided by officials as to whether any of the victims had underlying health issues that could have contributed to their deaths. ....

All Illinois regions now have loosened COVID-19 restrictions
SPRINGFIELD – All of Illinois’ COVID-19 mitigation regions are under Phase 4 guidelines as of Thursday, allowing for youth sports and indoor dining with loosened restrictions.
The seven-day rolling average case positivity rate continued its steady decline, dropping to 3.4%, a number not seen since Oct. 6.
Phase 4 is the loosest guideline outlined by the Pritzker administration, aside from Phase 5, which is essentially a return to normal. But the state cannot enter that phase without the presence of a widely available vaccine and treatment, or an end to the virus spreading in the community. ....

PEORIA For the second time in three months, almost to the day, a family lost a loved one to gunfire: Friday night, Jevon Gilliam, 31, was shot to death, nearly three months since his brother, Robert Gilliam Jr., 31, was shot and killed Nov. 2 in the 2900 block of North Knoxville Avenue.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed Monday that the two were brothers. Harwood said that Jevon Gilliam likely died instantly when he was shot late Friday night several times at a South Peoria gas station. Additional details regarding range of fire and caliber of weapon are being withheld, pending continued investigation by the Peoria Police Department. ....

PEORIA – Declining COVID-19 positivity numbers have put Peoria back to where it was in October, restriction-wise.
The state s COVID-19 website revealed the 21-county Region 2, which includes the Peoria area, has another sub-6.5% positivity day. That means Region 2 is out of the Tier 1 restrictions and back into full Phase 4, in which COVID-19 mitigation requirements are looser.
Peoria s Region 2 showed an overall positivity average of 5.6% on Monday as the state issued a news release that confirmed Region 1 and 2 s move to Phase 4.
The move means restaurants and bars can accommodate groups of up to 10 at tables and gatherings such as meetings, scout troops or even weddings can have up to 50 people at one time. Mother charged with murder in 7-year-old daughter s fatal stabbing
GALESBURG A mother has been charged with first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of her 7-year-old daughter on Sunday in the 1500 block of McKnight Street.
According to a Galesburg Police Department news release, the Galesburg Police Department responded to the 1500 block of McKnight Street in reference to an unknown problem with a child. Upon arrival, a 7-year-old female victim was found dead from apparent knife wounds.
