KC makes plans for federal stimulus funds | News, Sports, Jobs

MILL HALL In a year that has been anything but normal, the Keystone Central school board heard some good news at Thursday night’s work session.
KCSD superintendent Jacquelyn Martin said that the district will receive millions of dollars in federal stimulus funding. Earlier this week, it was announced that Pennsylvania schools would get nearly $5 billion from the federal COVID-19 aid package.
According to the Department of Education’s website, KCSD is expected to receive $10,677,162.
“(We) are continuing to look at how we believe we can best effectively use this one-time stimulus money,” Martin explained. “We’ve been attending seminars and presentations, making sure that we have the best information. I’ve been collaborating with other superintendents on how they plan to strategically use these funds.” ....

The Keystone Central Foundation recently presented the school district and IMPACT/West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission with a $2,000 contribution to be utilized by the Central Mountain Middle School and Central Mountain High School. As a result of an anonymous donation in 2015, the Keystone Central Foundation has awarded each school $1,000 per year to further their efforts in reducing destructive decisions by youth including the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. IMPACT works with the local schools to provide positive messaging programs throughout the district. KCSD to feed children in community | News, Sports, Jobs

MILL HALL Even though the district will remain in remote learning for the rest of the year and into 2021, the Keystone Central School District will continue to feed children in the KCSD community free of charge.
Seven breakfasts and seven lunches will be bundled for weekly pickup.
The meals are available for any child between the ages of 1 and 18. The funding for the meals is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“The KCSD Food and Nutrition Services department has distributed 100,258 meals to families since Nov. 2. The meals are available to all families within KCSD community with children ranging from age 1 to 18, whether or not these children attend KCSD schools,” said KCSD business manager Susan Blesh. ....
