American flags placed at Sullivan cemetary to honor Memorial Day weekend

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) A Memorial Day weekend tradition, continues in Sullivan.
The Sullivan American Legion gathered at Center Ridge Cemetery Friday. Each year, the day before Memorial Day, volunteers place an American flag on every veteran’s headstone in the city of Sullivan.
“1,333 veterans are buried out here. The community has come out to honor those veterans … It’s very important that the community recognize what these veterans sacrified for us,” Bob Emmons with the American Legion said.
Volunteers met at 8 a.m. Friday to place the flags.

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) The city of Sullivan has been awarded $2.6 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration for the City’s ever-expanding Sully Greenway Trail System. This project’s components include an addition to the Sully trail connecting downtown Sullivan along South Main St. from Jackson St. to the Sullivan City Park.
“The City has continuously sought every dollar available to continue the revitalization and betterment of our community,” said Mayor Clint Lamb. “We are grateful for INDOT for believing in our City’s vision as we continue to invest in the economic and emotion wellness of our current and future citizens.” ....

A local group is trying to bring it to Sullivan county.
A project coordinator says there are 1300 veterans buried at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan county.
His goal is to lay wreaths down on each grave on December 18th of this year.
The group needs your help to raise 15,000 dollars to do this.
The coordinaor says this is a way to honor those who paid the ultimate price.
Well, I m a veteran myself so it means a lot to me to be able to help the other veterans. Let s say the grieving process. There s probably a lot of veterans out here who haven t been visited in a long time, says project coordinator Quaid Tresise. ....
