(Shutterstock) MANATEE COUNTY, FL Two people are dead following a head-on-crash on Moccasin Wallow Road Sunday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. Around 3:45 p.m., a Toyota sedan was traveling east on Moccasin Wallow Road, east of Carter Road. At the same time, a Honda SUV was traveling west on Moccasin Wallow, east of the same intersection, FHP said. Troopers said a Chevrolet Camaro, heading west on Moccasin Wallow Road, passed the Honda by entering the eastbound lane. The Toyota veered right to avoid the car and entered the grass shoulder. ....

Last week, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection approved the pumping of wastewater into the Tampa Bay ecosystem from a reservoir at Piney Point – a former phosphate plant in Manatee County. A leak in the liner of the reservoir has caused a partial breach in one of the containment walls and officials hope that pumping more than 30 million gallons of wastewater out of the reservoir will relieve pressure on the walls and reduce the chance of an uncontrolled major breach.
