Governor Granton Samboja says county is broke, cannot pay bills or salaries

The Taita Taveta County government is broke and cannot pay salaries or implement development projects, according to governor Granton Samboja.
He said his administration is also unable to pay its bills and blamed the state of affairs in the county on delays by the National Treasury to disburse funds.
The situation, he said, has been compounded by a dip in local revenue collections as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Samboja said county staff have not been paid for three months and many services have also been affected.
The financial problems were are facing are not our making, Samboja said at St Peter’s ACK Church Mwakishimba in Werugha. ....

Kenya: Police on Wednesday were forced to rush a 48-year-old woman to the hospital to save her life after she swallowed four sachets of drugs she was suspected of trafficking.
Pauline Mugure, 48, a suspected drug peddler, swallowed the sachets of suspected heroin to avoid arrest, according to a police report.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced that the government has suspended flights to and from India for 14 days following a spike in Covid-19 infections in the country.
In a press briefing, Kagwe issued 72 hours to Kenyans who are travelling from India to do so.
The passengers are required to get tested and if they turn out positive for Covid-19 go on quarantine for two weeks on arrival in the Country.
