UNC defends statement on United States’ travel advisory Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal. - UNC MP for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal on Sunday doubled down on a statement made by the party in response to a travel advisory issued by the United States which advised against travelling to Trinidad and Tobago amid crime and covid19 concerns. Moonilal, at a news briefing at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Port of Spain, said the areas listed in their statement were well known as “hotspots” and were in PNM strongholds. “The US over the years have identified certain areas in this country that they advise their citizens, employees and workers not to go. And those areas are areas that have been represented for donkey years by the People’s National Movement.

In Tobago, the Progressive Democratic Patriots has requested recounts in the electoral districts of Canaan/Bon Accord, Lambeau/ Signal Hill and Scarborough/Calder Hall. The People’s National Movement has requested a recount in the electoral district of Bethel/Mt. Irvine. In the Local Government Bye-Elections, the independent candidate Christopher Wright, who received 307 votes in the electoral district of Hollywood, requested a recount. Election Rule 101(1) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01 provides for, inter alia, political parties and/or independent candidates to request a recount into the votes cast, no later than twelve noon on the day after the election.

Posters seen beyond Diego polling station limits Monday 25 January 2021 A poster plastered on a lamppost obliquely opposite the Petit Valley Boys RC School which is one of the polling stations for the local government by-elections - AYANNA KINSALE Campaign posters were seen beyond the polling limits at multiple polling stations in Alyce Glen/Morne Coco, where a by-election is being held. Campaign posters for PNM candidate Jinelle Schulere-Smart were seen behind the limits at Petit Valley Girls primary and Four Roads government primary schools. The Representation of the People Act, sections 88-91, lays down the rules for election day and says that no person shall in any polling station, on any road or in any public place within 100 yards of the polling station seek to influence any elector to vote or refrain from voting, or try to ascertain for whom an elector intends to vote.
