A Wonder Valley cabin is a total loss following a fire Thursday night. Fire fighters from Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, and the Combat Center were called to the area of Mojave Road and Indian Trail about 10 p.m. for an unknown fire. Crews arrived to find a cabin fully involved with flames, which burned to the ground. There was no additional threat to other structures or vegetation. Updated 10:15 a.m. with additional information. We have more information about a plane crash in Twentynine Palms yesterday. Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics were called to the area of Highway 62 and Mojave Road at 3:13 p.m. for a plane crash. According to Sheriff’s Deputy Wayne Greer, Donald Richie, 67, of Cedar Park, Texas, was flying a 1979 single-engine Lake LA-4 200 airplane from Petaluma to Texas and had stopped at the Twentynine Palms airport to refuel. After taking off, his plane couldn’t gain altitude, and Richie said he was trying to return to the airport. Greer said when Richie realized he wouldn’t make it to the runway, he thought about landing on Highway 62, until he saw the powerlines on the north side of the highway. Richie then decided to make an emergency landing in the open desert west of the airport. His plane collided with a stop sign and other business signs, and came to rest upside down. Aster Road in Adelanto set for two-week closure for much needed improvement project Victorville Daily Press A stretch of Aster Road in Adelanto will close Monday for approximately two weeks for a road improvement project city officials say will, in part, bring the residential roadway up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Located in the Adelanto s southern section, Aster Road, which runs north to south, will be closed between Thorndale Street and Mojave Drive, a distance of about a mile. The project will repave Aster Road, add a bike lane and update the sidewalk. The segment of Aster Road designated for revamp functions as a collector street, particularly for traffic to Adelanto High School and Columbia Middle School, city officials said in a staff report. ....
