Senator Richard J. Gordon, chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon and justice committees, said this grisly tally make our countrymen despairing whether there would ever be a solution.

Senate panel mulls filing of graft, plunder charges vs LTO executives

Gordon, who chairs the said panel investigating the slow implementation of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, said the delay in the issuance of license plates have caused undue damage to vehicle owners and is considered a violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
“Whoever causes damage to third parties and other agencies that’s anti-graft. Because you’re talking here of a huge amount of money that reached them, so that may qualify for plunder. That’s what we are thinking of recommending,” Gordon said in Filipino in an interview over Radio DZBB. ....

Gordon urges DTI to dismantle private group in motorcycle registration

Gordon, who chairs the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, made the call as he asked the DTI to immediately “stop this practice” of manufacturers, assemblers, importers, rebuilders, dealers or other outfits, or MAIRDOEs.
“May I request Secretary Castelo and Secretary Lopez to stop this practice immediately. Buwagin dapat iyan kaagad (That should be dismantled as soon as possible),” Gordon said during the virtual hearing, directing his request to DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez and Undersecretary Ruth Castelo.
Gordon, who held a series of hearings into the delay in implementing Republic Act No 11235 or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act by the Land Transportation Office, pointed out there is no legal basis in allowing MAIRDOEs to carry out the registration of motorcycle vehicles. ....

PASAY CITY, Feb. 19 Decrying the continuous rise in criminal incidents perpetrated by riding-in-tandem criminals, most of which remain unsolved, Senator Richard J. Gordon on Thursday prodded anew the Land Transportation Office and the Department of Transportation for the full implementation of Republic Act 11235 or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act as he expressed fear that the unabated killings in the country is already making the people desensitized to the criminal act.
“Life has become cheap in this country. Paulit-ulit ang patayan, paulit-ulit nakikita ng tao at ang nangyayari ang kinakatakot ko, nasasanay na ang mga tao at parang nasagasaang aso lang ‘yung binaril, lalampasan na lang nila at sasabihin na lang nila ‘droga ‘yan.’ Sasabihin na lang nila, ‘magnanakaw ‘yan,’” he said during the continuation of the motu proprio investigation conducted by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the continued delay in implementing the law. ....
