In both aged care homes and the community – in our neighbourhoods – it boils down to society’s duty to older people. How do we work with them to reduce their fears, both real and perceived?
New research by academics from Monash University and the German Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law has examined age differences in fear of crime in urban neighbourhoods, but the paper also reveals important questions about ageing and how best to deal with societal issues in wellbeing and physical and mental health for older people.

A third of migrant and refugee women in a new survey said they experienced some form of domestic and/or family violence.
And temporary visa holders consistently reported proportionately higher levels of domestic and family violence, including controlling behaviours. Temporary visa holders also reported much higher patterns of migration-related abuse and threats (such as threats to be deported or separated from their children).
These are the main findings of a survey of nearly 1,400 migrant and refugee women across Australia, the most comprehensive of its kind in the country. ....

The findings of a nationwide survey are drawing a nuanced picture of what reality is like for migrant and  refugee women in Australia, focusing on their experiences of violence, victimisation, perceptions of  policing and trust in communities and institutions. 
Migrant and Refugee Women in Australia: The Safety and Security Study will be released today by  Harmony Alliance and Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre at a National Press Club address.  
Drawing on responses from around 1400 women across Australia, surveyed amid the 2020 pandemic, the  study offers key insights to inform policy and practice that may best support migrant and refugee women  into the future.  ....
