Sen. Hinkins discusses his vote against OHV curfew bill

Grand County residents have been eagerly watching the progress at the state capitol of Senate Bill 168, which would have allowed resort communities in Utah to impose a curfew on OHV use on municipal streets between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Many residents hoped the bill would give Moab City a tool to reduce excessive noise from the popular vehicles; others see UTVs as being unfairly targeted by the proposed legislation, and urge officials to instead enforce existing regulations that apply to all vehicles to address ongoing noise complaints. The bill, which was introduced by Sen. Mike McKell (R-District 7), failed in the Senate in a 14-15 vote on Feb. 24. ....

The 41-year-old didn’t know if he’d ever own a home in his hometown, where nightly rentals and second-home owners have driven prices so far they felt out of reach. Moab Still Looking For Solutions Surrounding Off-Road Vehicles In The Area

Many visitors to Grand County bring recreational-off road vehicles with them. Moab city officials say while they want people to enjoy their time in the community, the negative effects UTVs can have on residents must be accounted for.
“I would like to work with users and impress upon them how impacted our residents are, Tawny Knuteson-Boyd said. And we don’t hate them, we want them to come and enjoy. We just want our town respected and our residents respected.”

Knuteson-Boyd is a member of the Moab City Council and is working alongside the council and the Grand County Commision to find better solutions for off-highway vehicle problems in the area. ....
