DOE Issues Final Request for Proposal for the Moab Remedial Action Contract
Cincinnati – Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) is issuing the Final Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Moab Remedial Action Contract (“Moab RAC”). The Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project (Moab UMTRA Project) is responsible for remediation of EM’s Moab Site through the Moab RAC.
The new Moab RAC is an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with a cumulative task order ceiling of approximately $614 million. This ceiling includes issuance of a task order performing a maximum of 5 years beyond the end of the 10-year ordering period. The Final RFP is 100% set-aside for small business. ....

Moab's Aquifer May Be Maxed Out, Prompting City To Explore Water Conservation

The Glen Canyon Group Aquifer is refilled by snowpack in the La Sal Mountains, located southeast of Moab. New research shows there’s less water in the aquifer than previously thought.
The city of Moab is planning to implement water conservation measures in the coming months based on a recent study that found the Moab Valley may hold less water than previously thought.
Researchers from the University of Utah and the U.S. Geological Survey used carbon dating and other modern techniques to determine there are around 2,500 acre feet of unused water flowing through a shallow aquifer just south of Moab called the Valley Fill Aquifer each year. That’s much less than the 11,000 acre feet of water scientists believed to be there, based on a 1971 study. ....

Women Getting COVID-19 Vaccine Should Wait To Get Mammograms
Medical experts said women should wait four to six weeks after their second COVID-19 vaccine before getting a mammogram. The vaccine can lead to temporary swelling of the lymph nodes. That inflammation is usually a sign that more tests are needed for breast cancer. Doctors want that swelling to go down before doing a mammogram. Brett Parkinson, medical director of Intermountain Healthcare’s Breast Care Center, said this isn’t an excuse to skip the exam though. “Breast cancer does not stop because of the pandemic or because of the vaccine,” Parkinson said. “Postponing it by a month or two would not be that impactful, but postp ....
