New partnership helps provide financial support for child care industry

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) — In response to the child care shortage in Minnesota, a new partnership provides support for the state’s child care industry.
Minnesota Small Business Development Center and the nonprofit First Children’s Finance partnership provides specialized business and financial assistance to child care businesses at no cost.
“This is a really good opportunity for those considering opening a child care center or those that might be looking to pivot their current centers to get some free, technical support which then will make them eligible for potential financial assistance programs,” said Mike Hahn, regional director at the Small Business Development Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato. ....

It’s all thanks to Tigers head groundskeeper Heather Nabozny. She’s the first woman to ever hold that position in Major League Baseball.
Nabozny was brought on when Comerica Park was first being built in the late 1990s. At the time, Nabozny was one year into her new job the first women to ever hold the title as head groundskeeper for a MLB team.
Her path to the Detroit Tigers started as a teenager. She started working for her dad’s lawncare business in Milford. After two years at Northern Michigan University, she transferred to Michigan State University, for its Turf Management Program. ....

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) — The Minnesota State College and Universities Board of Trustees announced Wednesday that Edward Inch will serve as the 13th president of Minnesota State University, Mankato, effective July 1.
Inch will be the successor to Richard Davenport, who has served as president at MSU Mankato since July 1, 2002 — which currently makes him the longest-serving president of any college or university in the state of Minnesota and the third longest-serving president in Minnesota State Mankato history. ....

A lunar lander called Blue Ghost will touch down on the Earth s Moon in 2023, carrying with it a Montana State University experiment on how outer space radiation affects computers. Marshall Swearingen of MSU News reported that RadPC has already been tested in Earth orbit and on the International Space Station. NASA had earlier accepted the project as part of a payload headed toward the lunar surface, but a schedule this past week gives the Bozeman, Montana, project team some definite deadlines to put together the finishing touches.
Brock LaMeres, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering professor, said, We were doing prototyping and testing, and then overnight this announcement changed everything. It s exciting because all of a sudden we re scheduling meetings with upper-level NASA people to lay out the schedule for everything that has to happen before launch. ....
