PARADISE-MI: ARNI Doesn't Surpass ACE Inhibitor After Acute MI

For immediate post-MI patients, sacubitril/valsartan (Entresto; Novartis) does not significantly decrease the risk of heart failure (HF) or CV death compared with an ACE inhibitor, the PARADISE-MI trial shows.
sacubitril/valsartan is superior to an ACE inhibitor in patients who have symptomatic HF with reduced ejection fraction when it comes to reducing both HF events and total mortality, PARADISE-MI fell short by missing its primary endpoint of a 15% reduction in events needed to demonstrate superiority of the angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) over an ACE inhibitor, ramipril, in this acute MI population. Nevertheless, there was a 10% reduction in the sacubitril/valsartan group and positive reports of reduced events from investigators who participated in the large multinational trial. ....

William R. Hiatt, Giant of Vascular Medicine, Dies at 70


 
(Updated) William R. Hiatt, MD, a pioneer in the field of clinical vascular medicine and cardiovascular research, died December 8, 2020. He was 70 years old.
The announcement of his death by Colorado Prevention Center (CPC) Clinical Research noted the profound void left by his passing. 
“He led by example. He pursued excellence but at the same time was humble and grounded. He embodied qualities rarely found in the same individual: to be reasonable and to place integrity above success,” the announcement reads.
Colleague Marc Bonaca, MD (University of Colorado School of Medicine, Aurora), told TCTMD Hiatt was an avid outdoorsman who had climbed all of Colorado’s so-called “fourteeners” mountains with an elevation of 14,000 feet at least once. ....
