East Lothian Council gender pay gap revealed

WOMEN working for East Lothian Council are paid on average 4.6 per cent less than men.
The latest audit of equal pay within the local authority has said that the average hourly rate for male employees was £15.62 compared to £14.90 for female staff.
It comes as the council has announced that its preferred candidates for four head of service vacancies created by a senior management review are all female.
The average gender pay gap is revealed in the audit report, which also reveals that 72 per cent of East Lothian Council’s workers are female.
However, when it comes to full-time staff, a higher proportion are men. ....

A SENIOR Dunfermline councillor who claimed that she had been bullied by Labour colleagues in the past will not file any official complaint.
SNP member Fay Sinclair sparked a cross-party row in November when she made comments on social media claiming that bullying was “sadly accepted” within local government, singling out members on the other side of Fife’s power-sharing administration as being particularly responsible.
As reported previously in the Press, she wrote at the time: In local government, bullying is sadly accepted. Victims are told to have thicker skin rather than bullies be challenged. Fife Council spied on 11 people in the last two years

COUNCIL officers in Fife have used investigatory powers 13 times in the last two years to try to spy on individuals, according to a new report.
Members of the standards and audit committee heard that 12 requests were made to carry out surveillance on locals in 2019, while only one was made this year due to staff being diverted to other duties to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trading standards officers were responsible for all 13 requests, of which two were refused and the others approved.
Each request took the form of online surveillance of individuals suspected of trading in counterfeit goods, unsafe products and what the report branded “misleading health claims”. ....
