COMMENT | At the Asean Digital Ministers Meeting, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin suggested that Asean should take a tougher stance against hate speech, including, but not limited to, harassment and threats against a person or persons based on their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability or nationality.
Well, you got to be living under a rock if you think that Malaysia, having its PM call for such a benevolent gesture, is free from hate speech.
In fact, much like potholes, hate speech has unfortunately become so normalised in our lives that we tend to shrug it off. The only time it becomes a big deal is when some politicians get their egos damaged and feelings hurt by what the rest of us have to deal with on a daily basis - again, much like potholes. ....

KUALA LUMPUR: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) member states have emphasised on the importance of strengthening cybersecurity mechanisms as part of the efforts to advance digital connectivity in the region, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

Saifuddin, who chaired the inaugural Asean Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN1), said this includes the need to strengthen laws and regulations to guarantee safety and security of data connection and to curb the exploitation of children and women in cyberspace as well as cyberbullying.
Saifuddin said strengthening cybersecurity is also one of the key components of the Asean Digital Masterplan 2025, which is contained in one of its eight Desired Outcome. ....

KUALA LUMPUR: The first Asean Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN1) (
pix) ended today by adopting the Putrajaya Declaration which has the Asean Digital Masterplan 2025 (ADM2025) at its core.
The masterplan, launched by Asean digital ministers, comprises eight Desired Outcomes that seek to propel the regional grouping as a leading digital community and economic bloc.
Malaysia has been given the honour of coordinating the development of the ADM2025 for Asean with the five-year masterplan listing the desired outcomes to facilitate regional cooperation in the development of the digital sector within Asean. ....
