PEKAN, March 11 Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah stressed today that he is a strong supporter of the Undi 18 implementation (lowering the voting age to 18), describing it as an ‘age of maturity’.
Saifuddin, who is the Member of Parliament of Indera Mahkota, also described those who do not trust youths and do not support Undi 18 as being “outdated” and politically immature. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 ― The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) member states have emphasised on the importance of strengthening cybersecurity mechanisms as part of the efforts to advance digital connectivity in the region, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
Saifuddin, who chaired the inaugural Asean Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN1), said this includes the need to strengthen laws and regulations to guarantee safety and security of data connection and to curb the exploitation of children and women in the cyberspace as well as cyberbullying. ....

Asean needs new cybersecurity laws to combat transboundary crimes online, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Asean needs new laws to tackle transboundary cyber threats to develop the region into a digital economic bloc, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
I believe there are areas under the present laws which need to be reviewed to accommodate new technologies and challenges, especially in the parameters of security in cyberspace.
Technology has evolved at a rapid pace and so does the emergence of new cyber threats and new challenges, he said in his keynote address at the opening of the inaugural Asean Digital Ministers Meeting (ADGMIN1) held here on Thursday (Jan 21).
He said that bringing transboundary cybercriminals to justice requires a coordinated and integrated regional approach. ....

With technology evolving at a rapid pace and so does the emergence of new cyberthreats and new challenges, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said ASEAN members can no longer operate and work in isolation. Muhyiddin stressed that there must be a mechanism to enable the existing laws to be applied in cyberspace, and new laws be enacted if the need arises, as he emphasises that Malaysia is committed to providing greater efficiency and connectivity for people across the region. ....
