A64 between York and Tadcaster shut after accident

9.30AM: The road has now reopened.

THE A64 is closed one way after an accident.
The road is currently closed Westbound with heavy traffic due to accident investigation work from the A1237 at the Copmanthorpe roundabout in York to the A659 Tadcaster turn off.
The road has been closed since 12.30am following an earlier accident involving a car.
Traffic is also queuing on the opposite carriageway due to onlookers.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say they were called to the scene at about 11.52pm and crews from Tadcaster, Acomb and York attended a single vehicle road traffic collision.
A spokesman said: Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to allow ambulance crews access to the passenger inside of the vehicle. ....

Update on flood defence schemes across city

WORK is continuing on city flood defences - including the Foss Barrier where a new gate was lowered into place at the end of January.
But a council report says some projects have hit delays and the pandemic has added costs of £1.5 million to the Environment Agency s York programme.
Construction on a Foss flood storage area at Strensall is set to start in the coming weeks. Work on the construction compound for flood defences at Clementhorpe is underway, with the scheme set to take 18 months to complete. Work at Bishopthorpe, including a new flood gate in Chantry Lane, is set to get underway at the end of May or in early June. ....

Fire crews were called to the incident yesterday evening
FIRE crews were called to an incident involving a fire in a derelict bungalow in North Yorkshire.
Crews from Acomb and Huntington, including the aerial ladder platform, attended a fire to a derelict bunglaow undergoing construction work in Millfield Lane in Nether Poppleton.
It is believed by the fire service that some young people had gained access to the property and ripped some wooden plinth from the kitchen and set it alight on top of worktop.
This caused some moderate fire damage to the worktop and tiles behind it and slight smoke damage to the remainder of the property. ....
