Ice cream trucks still draw excited children, and trouble can follow


Surrounded by siblings and neighborhood kids, Bailey Jones looked no worse for the wear Wednesday as she played in her yard.
Which is really kind of remarkable when you consider that just a few short weeks back, the second-grader had been stuck momentarily under a car after being clipped right in front of her house.
“I was just running across the street when the ice cream truck was here,” she said, a shy smile spreading across her face.
To Amy Jones, Bailey’s mom, the incident — once the initial shock of seeing one of her four kids hit passed — represents a teaching moment, raises serious questions and reinforces a message that’s been preached since the very first time circus music blared from a refrigerated truck. ....

TONIGHT…
A few showers are expected across Connecticut tonight a few hours before and after midnight. Most towns will be above 32 degrees tonight thanks to the blanket of clouds. Winds will remain calm until a parade of fronts moves through the state this week.
MONDAY…
Monday will bring us more sun than clouds, especially during the first half of the day. Temperatures will break the 60s statewide. Combined with some sun, this will be a solid spring day! An incoming boundary will take advantage of some extra buoyancy in the air and produce a few thunderstorms. This line of showers and thunderstorms will cruise through the state. Expect a quick, moderate downpour and a few rumbles of thunder west of the Connecticut River Valley. Thunder and lightning aren’t likely on the other side of the river. While those folks will get some rain, the setting sun won’t give those showers much juice.  ....

Technical Discussion: A Mostly Dry & Quiet Weekend!


SATURDAY MORNING. 
A quiet but chilly start out there today!! As those showers from yesterday have moved to the east of us, conditions are mostly dry and will remain that way as we head through the weekend. Temperatures this morning are in the 30s and low 40s, but with a NW breeze it feels like it s in the 30s across the state. 
A SNOWY AND RAINY FRIDAY…
The storm that has been impacting Connecticut since yesterday has already produced impressive rainfall and snowfall totals! Most of the state received 1-3” of rain, which was greatly needed. One of the highest rainfall totals was 2.41” in West Haven. The Northeast Hills of Connecticut hit the jackpot when it comes to snowfall. Union received 7.0” of heavy, wet snow. We also received a video showing a foot of snow in Staffordville at the 3rd highest elevation east of the Connecticut River! Other snowfall totals include; Norfolk 4.6”, Storrs 3.0”, Goshen 2.8”, and Manchester 1.0â ....

This year the 2021 Sundance Film Festival was virtual, and its offerings trimmed down from previous years.
