TOKYO – A Marine Corps air station in western Japan announced Wednesday it would soon give COVID-19 vaccinations to adolescents as young as 12 years old.
Meanwhile, three people at U.S. military bases in the country have contracted the coronavirus respiratory disease over the past week, according to updates as of 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni has opened its coronavirus vaccination appointments for a May 20 shot clinic to eligible adolescents ages 12 to 17, according to the base Facebook page Wednesday. Those interested in the two-shot Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine may sign up here. ....

'It feels good:' Coronavirus vaccinations under way at US bases in Japan - Pacific

TOKYO A year-long wait began to evaporate Monday as volunteers at U.S. military bases across Japan bared their arms for the first wave of inoculations of the Moderna vaccine against the coronavirus.
Health care professionals, security forces and emergency responders were first in line, the top of a three-phase plan by the Defense Department to get the vaccine to its personnel.
Clinics at Yokota Air Base, in western Tokyo, and Kadena Air Base, on Okinawa, were two of the installations administering the vaccine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Dec. 18 for emergency use.

Yokota, headquarters of U.S. Forces Japan, along with Kadena and four other U.S. bases in Japan with medical facilities received the vaccine over the weekend, along with U.S. Forces Korea where inoculations are scheduled Tuesday. ....

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan The annual flu-shot campaign, SHOTEX, at the naval hospital here provided a mass-immunization dry run for the corpsmen preparing to inoculate thousands of personnel with the coming coronavirus vaccine.
The Nov. 16-Dec. 11 campaign provided Navy corpsmen real-world experience that could come in handy once the coronavirus vaccine is available for the general public, Naval Medical Forces Pacific spokeswoman Regena Kowitz said in an email Friday. ....
