Luke Turner , January 1st, 2021 18:57 The duo s classic music will emerge in five chapters, Cauty and Drummond say The KLF were arguably the oddest pop group ever to be the biggest-selling artist on the planet, but for years it s been nigh-on impossible to legitimately listen to Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty s back catalogue. Now, this has changed. On New Year s Eve, a statement appeared online saying: KLF have appropriated the work done between the 1st of January 1987 and 31st of December 1991 by The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, The Timelords, The KLF. The purpose of this move is, according to the statement, to tell a story in five chapters using the medium of streaming. The name of the story is SAMPLECITY THRU TRANCENTRAL. ....
Last modified on Fri 1 Jan 2021 23.37 EST Rave-pop iconoclasts the KLF have released their greatest hits on to streaming services and YouTube for the first time, and have hinted at further music to follow later this year. An eight-track collection entitled Solid State Logik 1 has been released today, including 1988 No 1 novelty single Doctorin’ the Tardis, 1991 UK No 1 dance anthem 3am Eternal, and the Top 5 hits Last Train to Trancentral and America: What Time is Love? also released that year. Also included are It’s Grim Up North, their earlier hit version of What Time is Love, Tammy Wynette collaboration Justified & Ancient, and the studio version of the hardcore punk take on 3am Eternal that they infamously performed at the Brit awards with the band Extreme Noise Terror in 1992. ....
Words on Birds Steve Grinley Jan 1, 2021 Jan 1, 2021 As I was reflecting back on this birding year of social distancing and no travel, I thought about the year ahead and the hope of the vaccine helping to bring our experiences back to, at least, a new ânormal.â We spent the past year birding close to home and as rewarding as that was, we drooled over reports of all the rare birds being seen in Arizona, Texas and Florida. I went back and looked at some of my reports of years past and came across a look at 2006 when we traveled some of these places and added a lot of new birds to our life lists. I thought of sharing excerpts of those reports to also give you some hope of a better time ahead: ....
The KLF add music to streaming services for very first time The electronic duo s back catalogue hasn t been made available since 1992 Jimmy Caulty and Bill Drummond of The KLF. CREDIT: Roberta Parkin/Redferns/Getty Images The KLF have added a number of tracks from their back catalogue to streaming services for the very first time. The British electronic duo (made up of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty), who scored a series of global hits in the late 80s and early 90s, famously walked away from the music industry in 1992. Their departure from the business followed an appearance at that year’s BRIT Awards, during which they fired machine gun blanks into the audience and then dumped a dead sheep at the aftershow party. With their exit, they discontinued their entire discography. ....
BBC News By Mark Savage image copyrightShutterstock After years of silence, The KLF have uploaded a selection of their most famous songs to streaming services like Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music. The band s music has been officially unavailable since 1992, when they deleted their entire back catalogue. But eight songs, including dance anthems like 3AM Eternal and What Time Is Love, are now available on an eight-track compilation, Solid State Logik. Fly posters in London suggested The KLF would release more music this year.
