Silver Lake deal: Robertson urges NZR, players to continue talking

Sports Minister Grant Robertson is urging all parties to work together for the good of the game, as New Zealand Rugby (NZR) prepares for a vote on a multi-million dollar deal.
NZR needs the backing of more than 50 percent of the country s provincial rugby unions at today s AGM, along with the approval of the New Zealand Rugby Players Association, for private equity firm Silver Lake to take a 12.5 percent stake in NZR s commercial interests.
The deal is worth $387.5 million for NZR.
Sports Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson said there were different views inside the rugby community about the deal, but NZR would in all likelihood resolve to support it. ....

Leading All Blacks and Black Ferns aren t completely against New Zealand Rugby s proposed $465 million deal with US company Silver Lake says All Black players Dane Coles.
Coles, All Blacks captain Sam Cane along with Sam Whitelock, Aaron Smith, Dane Coles and Black Ferns Sarah Hirini and Selica Winiata signed a letter from the Rugby Players Association expressing concern about the proposal to sell a 15 percent stake in New Zealand Rugby s commercial rights.

But Coles maintains the players remain open to discussion over a deal.
Those boys who signed that letter and the ladies have been copping it but we wouldn t be doing our job if we didn t step in. that s why there s a players association so when deals like this happen we can have a discussion, it s not about completely saying no we re not accepting that, we would look like fools if the players association just didn t say anything and New Zealand Rugby did the deal, Coles said. ....

Wasps’ Kiwi star Jimmy Gopperth has been praised by a referee and hailed for “world-class sportsmanship’’ after telling the match official to award Bristol a try against his team.
It’s rare to see such candour in professional sport, but Gopperth earned a lot of admirers for his honesty in Wasps’ 37-20 loss to Bristol on Friday (Saturday NZ time).
Referee Karl Dickson was about to go upstairs to his Television Match Official (TMO) after Bristol Bears lock Joe Joyce lunged for the line, beneath a haystack of bodies, in the 55th minute at Bristol s Ashton Gate ground. ....

New business to help people pay happiness forward through random acts of kindness


A BUSINESSWOMAN and self-confessed bookworm turned her passions in a way to bring joy to people s lives through unexpected acts of kindness.
It all started when Lynsey Hyslop was inspired by the Run for Heroes campaign during the first coronavirus lockdown where people would run 5k and donate £5 to NHS charities.
Lynsey, whose husband Ricky is a keyworker, decided to make more personal runs around the family home in Flintshire and dedicate them to people that she wanted to thank.
She carried out 100 Gratitude Runs over 100 days.
Lynsey Hyslop was inspired to do Gratitude Runs and create A Random Book of Kindness ....
