DIXFIELD Bob McPhee, a former longtime sportswriter for the Lewiston Sun Journal and now an assistant baseball coach at Dirigo High School, never allowed a wheelchair to restrain him from leading a full life of inspiration and perseverance.
Members of this tight-knit community came out in droves to honor a courageous man on Monday afternoon before the Leavitt-Dirigo baseball game. Dirigo renamed the baseball field at Harlow Park with a sign that reads Bob McPhee Baseball Diamond. ....

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the April 29 Sun Spots, someone was asking about a 1970 Rumford High School yearbook. Well, I recently discovered a site when I was looking for an old yearbook. If you Google “high school Maine past yearbooks” it brings you to a site where all the states are listed so click on your state. From there it brings you to the alphabet so you click on the letter of the town where your high school is located.

“Traffic is backed-up all the way to Portland.” That is how Sgt. Donald E Darling of the Auburn Police Department summed up the situation. He sat in his cruiser at one of many railroad crossings in the city that became blocked when a passing train became stalled. Shortly before one o’clock a 120-unit freight train became disabled when an air-line broke. Immediately traffic became jammed in the city. A Central Maine Central Railroad crew made repairs in about one half hour and the train was moving once again. However It was still quite a while before the congested traffic cleared. ....

RUMFORD Rumford native Torrey Viger, a longtime fan of the Irish rock band U2, is still talking about the opportunities he’s had the past 6 months to participate in shows via the band’s SiriusXM radio channel and its private Facebook page.
In July 2020, the broadcastings company that provides satellite radio and online radio services launched a U2 channel. One of the shows, “Desire,” is a 30-minute segment hosted by U2 fans.
“The premise is that the fan picks their five most desired U2 songs and tells the story of why the track means so much to them,” the Enfield, New Hampshire resident said during a recent interview via Facebook. “I sent an email in with my five songs and was thrilled to have been selected as one of the deejays.” ....
