Covid-19 Vaccine Appointments Available Wednesday and Thursday at the Health Department

The Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH) has announced that first dose appointments are available for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, and Thursday, April 15, 2021. If you are 18 and older and live, work or attend school in New York State, visit COVID-19 webpage (http://rcklnd.us/
covid19) to schedule your appointment.
Eligible residents that do not have access to a computer or need assistance in scheduling their appointment are encouraged to call the Rockland County COVID Call Center at 845-238-1956 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday (except holidays).
In order to complete this vaccination series, you must be available to return for your 2nd immunization on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, or Thursday, May 13, 2021. ....

NY Ahead On Vaccinating Younger People, Lags With Seniors

NEW YORK In comparison to other states, New York has gotten more of its younger residents but fewer of its senior citizens vaccinated against the coronavirus.
New York only opened vaccination eligibility to residents age 30 - 50 on Thursday. For those 16 - 30, eligibility just started Tuesday.
A new report from the Empire Center, an Albany-based think tank, parses data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control that show New York 44th among states in the vaccination of residents age 65 and older, but 9th among states for immunizing the population between 18 and 65.

According to the Empire Center, before New York even opened vaccination eligibility to residents aged 16 and above, 32 percent of New Yorkers age 18-65 had already received at least one dose of vaccine, above the U.S. average of 28 percent. ....

Rockland coronavirus vaccine allocation more than doubles

Rockland is getting more COVID-19 vaccines this week than anticipated, and considerably more than it has since the state started provided local health departments with vaccinations in January.
The county’s Department of Health was informed Monday that it would receive 1,200 Moderna vaccine doses from the Week 12 distribution.
Now the county expects 2,920 total vaccine doses this week.
3 kinds of vaccines, different uses
The state on Monday included 500 additional Moderna vaccinations, bringing the total Moderna allocation to 1,700.
The county is required to use 700 for essential workers, 500 for people with comorbidities and 500 for people age 65-plus.
The state determines how local health departments administer the vaccines. All doses listed are to be used for first doses of the two-dose Moderna cycle. Second doses, which are already reserved, are sent in a separate distribution. ....

Rockland collaborative gives 1 million pounds of food amid COVID

POMONA - You could still detect the smiles behind volunteers face masks gathered at Boulder Stadium as the Get Fresh drive-thru food distribution program hit a milestone.
The program and the Rockland Community Against Hunger food recovery initiative have given out 1 million pounds of food to local feeding programs since it ramped up deliveries during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It s an amazing thing, said volunteer Sue Ann Roeser of Suffern, who donned Mardi Gras beads and a construction paper headband that had 1 million written on it. And wow, a million pounds of food we ve given.
The Rockland Community Against Hunger collaboration of local nonprofits and government agencies launched the Get Fresh program in 2010. The food recovery program was added in 2018. ....

VALHALLA - A new COVID-19 vaccine directory offers one-stop shopping for Hudson Valley residents trying to figure out if they are eligible for a vaccine, where they can find one, and even how to help get vaccines in arms.
Westchester Medical Center Health Network launched the interactive directory on Wednesday. WMCHealth coordinates the Hudson Valley Regional Hub, which coordinates vaccination distribution across Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster and Sullivan counties.
The vaccine directory can be found at covidinfo.wmchealth.org and offers links to the following:
