Millions of employees have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has pushed India into an economic slowdown. To provide some relief in these tough times, Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has decided to offer an unemployment allowance to employees registered with the scheme.
ESIC said, Even if the employee is non-present for 90 days during treatment, he can claim salary under sickness benefit benefits. He can get paid at the rate of 70 per cent of salary every day.” ....

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday announced a slew of measures for beneficiaries of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) who are afflicted by Covid-19, including free medical care to insured persons as well as family members in any of the 21 ESI hospitals designated as dedicated Covid care centres and reimbursement for Covid treatment at private institutions.
The labour ministry said each ESIC hospital will earmark at least 20% of its beds for Covid-19 care to ESI staff, pensioners and beneficiaries. It said an insured person under ESIC, who is unable to attend to work due to Covid, can claim sickness benefit for the period of absence for up to 91 days. ....

ESIC offers free treatment to beneficiaries afflicted by Covid-19
Extending a helping hand to its beneficiaries, who have been afflicted by the Corona virus infection, the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on Thursday announced that all insured persons and family members are liable for availing free medical care in any of its hospitals, which have been declared as dedicated Covid centres.
Each ESIC hospital has been directed to function with a minimum of 20 per cent of its bed capacity reserved for ESI staff, pensioners and beneficiaries, according to Labour Ministry sources.
ESI beneficiaries can also seek emergency or non-emergency medical treatment from a tie-up hospital directly without referral letter, as per the person s entitlement. ....
