View Comments The city of El Paso unveiled its preliminary budget for 2022 during a presentation to the City Council on Tuesday. The city expects to increase its budget by 7% to more than $473 million for the upcoming year, an increase of more than $31 million, compared with the 2021 budget, according to city documents. El Paso City Manager Tommy Gonzalez highlighted four areas of focus for the budget in the upcoming year: public safety, streets, quality of life and capital bond projects. At more than $290.5 million, an almost 5% increase from last year, the city plans to fund priorities for public safety that include three police and two fire academies, while the police and fire departments, as well as emergency medical services, could receive up to $7.8 million for police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances and radio replacements. The Crisis Intervention Team and 911 Communications staffing also would see an increase in funding. ....
