Les Domaines de Fontenille At this point in time, to quantify America’s collective wanderlust would break any scale. After over a year of stay-at-home orders and hardline international restrictions, long-distance traveling is no longer a forbidden indulgence. And as demand for hotel rooms spikes like shares of GameStop in January, so too has supply in countries around the world where vaccinated Americans are now welcome again. Whether your yen is for Qu’ils mangent de la brioche vibes at Catherine Deneuve’s former chateau, sunshine and the succor of a Caribbean seafront cul-de-sac, or late-night cocktail klatches with Holborn hipsters in a moody-blue London cocoon, all of these extravagances and more are on offer.

Roman & Williams put their stamp on the hospitality group's first international outpost with a blend of New York and English influences and one showstopping atrium restaurant.
When the U.K. is safely abuzz with revelers once more, there will be no cozier spot for a nightcap than NoMad London, American hotelier Andrew Zoblerâs new British outpost. Occupying the looming old Bow Street Magistratesâ Courts, where Oscar Wilde was tried for âgross indecencyâ in 1895, it features a lush bar and dining space called the Fireplace Room. Located off the jungle-like atrium (the former police yard) and wrapped with a blossoming Zuber wallpaper, âit is a jewel of a space, an interpretation of a garden that you enter from a real garden room, stepping from something grand into something thatâs almost a whisper, which is a guiding principle of our work,â says Robin Standefer of AD100 firm Roman and Williams, which blended bleached English oak, blue velvet, and, yes, a vast fireplace. âIt feels very domestic and collected, like the country houses we visited when we were planning the British Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.â The Fireplaceâs signature Royal Martini, though, is pure NoMad, an urbane quaff composed of gin, an herb-infused wine, sherry, pear brandy, Benedictine, and a soupçon of saffron.

Credit: Stephen Kent Johnson In January, Atelier Ace announced its plans to open the Ace Hotel Brooklyn, specifically in Boerum Hill, in Spring 2021. The hotel, the company explained, was created from the ground up in partnership with longtime Ace collaborators Roman and Williams, who designed the look of the 287-room hotel.. "We've been building toward Ace Brooklyn for years; the entire city has reimagined itself several times over since we started," Brad Wilson, the president of the Ace Hotel Group, shared. "That's exactly the spirit we've worked to mirror in every corner of our new home — the inexhaustible ingenuity that stands as the borough's only constant. We're lucky enough to have landed at the junction of so many rich and inspiring neighborhoods, and hope to provide a new and inviting sense of place for our guests and neighbors to call home."
