The 70th annual National Day of Prayer drew dozens of people to the flagpole in front of Bowman City Hall May 6 for a time to reflect, pray, and sing.
Local churches and their ministers, pastors and deacons led the ceremony, which started with a welcome by Rev. Ray Sherwood and followed by The Lordâs Prayer.
Deacon Lenny Fischer led the participants in an acoustic rendition of âHeal Our Land;â Brenda Sherwood led the Pledge of Allegiance, while Rev. Mary Wiggins followed with a prayer for the family.
There were prayers for the church (Rev. Ed Kvaale), the workplace (Rev. Charles Johnson), education (Rev. Renee Johnson), military (Fr. Paul Eberle), government (Rev. Seth Springer), for art, media and entertainment (Rev. David Werner), and music (Deacon Fischer).
Sherwood Brewing Co.’s macaroni and cheese wins Best Mac in the Mac
Sherwood Brewing Co. is the winner of the first Mac Madness: Best Mac in the Mac contest to find the best macaroni and cheese in Macomb County.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP On April 7, Macomb County announced that Sherwood Brewing Co., of Shelby Township, was the winner of the first-ever Mac Madness: Best Mac in the Mac contest.
The competition, which was organized by the Macomb County Planning and Economic Development Department, sought to highlight house-made macaroni and cheese at locally owned and operated restaurants. Sixteen establishments went head-to-head in the competition, which had a March Madness-style tournament bracket, with Sherwood Brewing Co. coming out on top.
Weddings were often boisterous occasions, and an onlooker back in 1547 observed: “Suffer not your children to go to weddings or banquets for nowadays one can learn nothing there but ribaldry and foule words”. However, Welsh weddings were known to be more discreet where the people drynke mead and under heaven there is no fairer complexion nor cleaner of nature”. Another reference relates to a friend’s concern over the choice of bride. He says: “I saw Mistress Bryde return from the church. The day before she had been somewhat of the condition of a kitchen wench but now so tricked up with scarves and rings and cross garters that you never saw a Whitsun lady better rigged.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP/MACOMB TOWNSHIP In November, the state of Michigan enacted a temporary indoor dining ban that lasted over 10 weeks.
The order was lifted Feb. 1, the first day bars and restaurants could reopen, albeit with restrictions in place.
