Community-supported agriculture programs, or CSAs, have been around for more than 30 years, but when the COVID-19 pandemic started, Central Texas farmers found themselves with CSA waiting lists for the first time.
A year later, the February freeze and snow wiped out many farmers winter crops, and they have been scrambling to get the spring season started with less income from farmers markets and wholesale accounts.
Many farmers are selling their future crops in the form of a CSA program.
Now is the time to sign up for a spring or summer CSA, even if you might not get vegetables for a few more weeks. Many farmers offer newsletters, so you can find out when each season opens and what is going on in their fields. ....

BRUNSWICK, Ohio I have to admit, I’ve been shaken by the assault on the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., and, as I write this, I worry more is coming, including at the Ohio Statehouse. Then, I received a message from Ohio History that provided some interesting perspective.
These two paragraphs were of most interest to me, and I wanted to share them:

Two new grocery delivery services have expanded to Austin, adding more choices for shoppers who are ordering food from home.
MilkRun has joined the quickly growing online marketplace connecting farmers and ranchers to customers who want to buy produce and meat from local purveyors.
Started in 2018 in the Pacific Northwest, where it now has more than 3,000 customers in Portland, Ore., and Seattle, the company expanded to Austin in late November.
The local food delivery service sells produce, dairy, eggs and meats from farms such as Shirttail Creek, Windy Bar Ranch, Lightsey Farms, Animal Farm and Richardson Farms, and products from food companies, including Wholesome Meats, Texas Olive Ranch, Easy Tiger, Texas Coffee Traders, Yellowbird Hot Sauce and Rambler. ....

JOPPATOWNE, MD Teresa Stepp was determined not to let coronavirus ruin the holidays.
I have a three-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter, and I couldn t imagine canceling Christmas, said Stepp, who lives in Joppatowne.
That idea grew into a three-day event for local children and families to see Santa.

I happen to live next door to Santa Claus, Stepp told Patch.
She recalled how Rich Bennett, her neighbor who is Santa at Richardson Farms in Perry Hall, was having a conversation with her about how coronavirus had changed some of his holiday plans. ....
