400 more Richmond Promise scholars headed to college

Four hundred college-bound scholars from Richmond will be honored at the virtual Richmond Promise Scholars Celebration on May 26 at 5 p.m., the organization announced. The event will include a lineup of guest speakers yet to be announced.
This 2021 class of scholars is poised to join a burgeoning number of more than 1,300 current scholars from Richmond who are attending 100 colleges and universities nationwide as part of the seven-year-old Richmond Promise.
The community-wide college success initiative aims to build a college graduating culture in Richmond. The organization’s mission is realized, in part, through its Richmond Promise Scholarship a $1,500 college scholarship that’s renewable for up to four years and available to all college-bound high school seniors who live in Richmond and North Richmond. It also provides a continuum of support to scholars surrounding the areas of financial aid, academics and college acclimation. ....

Richmond Promise application deadline is March 14

The Richmond Promise Scholarship application deadline is March 14, 2021.
By applying for a Richmond Promise Scholarship, students can receive $1,500 renewable for up to four years toward a two-year or four-year college and/or a Career Technical Education Certificate at any U.S. not-for-profit institution. As an added bonus, students can petition for an additional two years of funding.
To be eligible for the Richmond Promise Scholarship, students must: reside in the City of Richmond or North Richmond (i.e. have a Richmond home address); have graduated from an eligible high school within the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSSD) boundaries or received a GED/high school equivalency this academic year or the previous one and be under the age of 24; and have attended an eligible high school at least 9 ....

Richmond Promise seeks mentors for program scholars

Want to make a significant difference in the life of a Richmond youth? Richmond Promise, an organization which provides $1,500 renewable, four-year scholarships to Richmond residents pursuing post-secondary education, along with college guidance, is on the lookout for mentors for its 2021-2022 cohort. Mentors share their knowledge, expertise and unique perspective to help cultivate the personal and professional growth of the program’s scholars.
Mentors are asked to meet their assigned mentee a minimum of one hour per month during the July 2021 to June 2022 timeframe and to agree to a one year commitment. Preferred qualifications for the roles include having professional career experience, as well as familiarity with LinkedIn and virtual communication such as email, texts and video calls. ....
