RIDGEFIELD Police have identified a local woman who died after an incident on High Ridge Road last week that left her with multiple injuries.
Elsie Craig died on July 15 at Danbury Hospital, according to her obituary. Police said the investigation into the circumstances of her death is ongoing, and it’s not clear yet whether a vehicle was involved.
In her obituary, the 94-year-old was remembered as a lifelong Ridgefield resident and “active” member of the community. Along with working as a volunteer patient driver, she held positions at the Ridgefield Historical Society, Keeler Tavern and the Ridgefield Chapter of Regional Hospice and Palliative Care of Western CT, according to the obituary. ....

On May 21, Governor Ned Lamont and other state dignitaries will visit Ridgefield to announce that the town has been granted the state’s first Cultural District designation.
The Governor; Elizabeth Shapiro, from the Connecticut Office of the Arts; Hal Kurfehs, representing the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut; along with Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi; Ridgefield Playhouse Executive Director Allison Stockel; Keeler Tavern Museum Executive Director Hilde Grob; West Lane Inn owner Christine Carnicelli; and Ridgefield Economic & Community Development member Glori Norwitt will discuss the arts & cultural community in Ridgefield as it relates to its Cultural District designation at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum at 1 pm. ....

Ridgefield Historical Society fundraiser planned for May 30

“Old News Is Good News” is the theme for the Ridgefield Historical Society’s dinner-and-a-movie fundraising event, the first in the organization’s 20-year history, which will take place Sunday, May 30.
Because of Covid constraints, the event will feature an at-home screening of News of the World, starring Tom Hanks, and a take-home dinner, prepared by Sarah Bouïssou. 
The movie will be available to patrons to watch at their leisure (over a three-day window). There will be an introductory program featuring some “news of the world” as reported in early editions of The Ridgefield Press. ....
