Abalone disease emerges at Cape Nelson


Wild abalone off the coast of Cape Nelson have tested positive for a disease called Abalone Virus Ganglioneuritis.
Victoria’s Chief Veterinary Officer said the disease affects the nervous system of abalone, resulting in curling of the foot and swelling of the mouth leading to weakness and death, with about 90 per cent of affected abalone dying.
There are no known risks to human health and abalone remain safe to eat.
“Thank you to the diver who noticed a cluster of dead abalone and reported it immediately. This is crucial to helping us act quickly and understand the extent disease spread,” Dr Cooke said. ....

After a whirlwind year of remote learning, public health protocols and social isolation, high school seniors in Connecticut are almost ready to graduate.
Despite the challenges of the year, superintendents from across the state said they are beholden to state requirements for high school graduation, so graduation standards will remain fairly consistent statewide. Although many superintendents said they would not reduce students’ credit requirements for graduation, many said their districts would be making additional efforts to help their students cross the finish line. ....

Police are responding to serious crash at Crafers, South Australia


Police are at the scene of a serious crash involving a motorcyclist at Stirling.
Just on 5pm on Thursday 29 April, a car and motorcycle collided near the intersection of the South-Eastern Freeway and Old Mount Barker Road between Stirling and Bridgwater.
There are reports of serious injuries.
All city bound traffic on the Freeway is being diverted into Bridgewater, with heavy vehicles been stopped short of the crash site.
Outbound traffic on the SE Freeway is down to one lane so expect long delays.
Major Crash Investigators are making their way to the scene.
