Company Announces MOU With Fermi Energia To Study SMR Deployment In Estonia :: The Independent Global Nuclear News Agency

Rolls-Royce and Estonia-based nuclear technology startup Fermi Energia have signed a memorandum of understanding to study the potential for the deployment of small modular reactors in Estonia.
The UK company said the study will cover all aspects of deployment including grid suitability, cooling, emergency planning, human resources, licensing feasibility, economics and supply chain.

The first European vacuum vessel sector is entering an important and critical phase: the assembly and welding of four segments into the D-shaped sector. Under the supervision of the European Domestic Agency, the AMW consortium (Ansaldo Nucleare, Mangiarotti, Walter Tosto), supported by an extended network of sub-suppliers located in France, Germany and Spain, is ready for the challenge.
Final machining is underway on one segment for sector #5 at Walter Tosto (Chieti, Italy). Four segments (inboard, upper, equatorial and lower) will be assembled into the final D-shaped sector.
Four poloidal segments are assembled into the final 40-degree vacuum vessel sector.Vacuum vessel sector #5 will be the first of five sectors delivered to ITER by the European Domestic Agency. Thermochemical processes such as gasification, reforming and pyrolysis can convert hydrocarbon-rich solid wastes to hydrogen. These thermochemical processes yield syngas which can be further processed to hydrogen, a clean, emission-free energy vector. The thermochemical processes that yield syngas differ from waste incineration, which takes place in an excess of oxygen to generate steam, carbon dioxide and ash.
Thermochemical processing of waste does produce some carbon dioxide, but the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) regards processing of the biogenic fraction of waste as carbon dioxide neutral. Animal carcasses, scrap wood, waste vegetable oils and post-consumer wastepaper meet this definition. ....
