Eagle County Sheriff's Office to use body cameras by fall

passed last summer as an unfunded mandate, with the exception of $617,478 in highway users tax fund dollars given to the Colorado State Patrol.
The bill sets a deadline of July 1, 2023, for compliance and outlines penalties for agencies and officers who fail to use body cameras after this date.
“We don’t have a choice about doing this,” van Beek told Eagle County Commissioners during a presentation at their June meeting. “We have to go forward with this, and we will do everything we possibly can to control the costs.”
The body camera program is expected to cost about $600,000 over the next five years, a number which does not include the personnel costs associated with managing and reviewing the footage, van Beek said.

Fourth of July weekend sees increase in 911 calls but not in crime

The Fourth of July holiday was a weekend full of heightened celebration, remembrance and, inevitably, 911 calls.
Many may be feeling rested coming off a long weekend, but many of Eagle County’s law enforcement personnel did not have the weekend off and were busier than normal responding to the uptick in calls typically seen around holiday weekends.
While “alcohol may be a factor” in this increase in shenanigans, the most likely reason behind the increase in call volume over Independence Day is “just pure math,” Vail police commander Ryan Kenney said Thursday.
“We see an increase in guests on most holiday weekends,” Kenney said. “With more people in town we tend to see an increase in call volume.”

NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals Recap

Lacrosse is a game of runs, and CNU twice utilized 4-0 spurts to change the momentum. Down 6-2, a four-goal run between the end of the second and start of the third quarter tied the score at 6.
Then, after Ryan Kenney scored consecutive goals for Lynchburg, CNU ended the third quarter with three goals and scored the first tally of the fourth, going ahead 10-8.
Up 11-9, CNU relinquished the lead. Trammel Robinson scored the equalizer with 1:27 left to play, setting the stage for overtime. Despite the Lynchburg momentum, it was Christopher Newport that earned a semifinal bid.
Dylan Rice scored four goals, Brendes scored three and Coby Auslander had two goals and two assists for the Captains. Zac Hanway made 11 saves.

Last October, Air Force Lt. Ryan Kenney's household goods were destroyed when the truck moving them from California to Ohio caught fire.
It was the family's sixth move in 13 years, this time for a compassionate reassignment because of their son's medical needs. The truck and its contents were declared a complete loss, including the family's furniture, clothes and all the special keepsakes from their son's younger years.
Kenney and his wife Alyssa started a GoFundMe page to help recoup some of the cost of replacing their household goods because the moving company's insurance didn't cover everything.
