A long line formed in the snow on Sunday as the Ottawa Mission held a special takeout Christmas meal.
This holiday season, the Mission has served up a record-breaking 5,762 holiday meals, more than double its typical total.

In a Sunday night statement, the organization said it typically serves 2,000 to 2,500 Christmas meals every year, but the COVID-19 pandemic “has made hunger in Ottawa much worse.”
In response, the Mission provided holiday meals to its shelter guests, through its food truck and takeout meal program, to clients at the COVID-19 self-isolation centre in the Routhier Community Centre, to Ottawa Community Housing residents and others.
