The Regional District of the Central Okanagan is in its final stages of testing bear-resistant garbage cans and new options for residents could be available later this year.
Waste reduction coordinator Rae Stewart said the district s waste reduction office and waste contractor E360s are in the final phase of a pilot project. 
Bear-resistant garbage carts are being tested in select neighbourhoods throughout the region in rural collection sites from Lake Country, Joe Rich, Upper Mission, Southeast Kelowna and soon to be rolled out to select areas in Peachland. Depending on the results and how the carts perform for residents and stand up to bear activity, there could be new cart options for residents late this year, she said. ....

Oak Creek looks to improve system for dealing with resident concerns


“I probably take more complaints than anybody,” Mayor Dan Bukiewicz said.
Oak Creek Director of Community Development Doug Seymour acknowledged the city’s process for fielding and resolving complaints can be confusing, fragmented and overly complex.
To improve and streamline the relationship between the city and residents when it comes to neighborhood preservation and code compliance, the city administrator, attorney, police and fire chief, community development director and a management intern recently came together and crafted a solution: “Creek Code,” a community aesthetic preservation and nuisance abatement program.
As part of the program, the city will hire a “Neighborhood Preservation Officer.” The draft job description states the primary responsibilities of the NPO include “the public education, investigation, inspection, documentation, and enforcement of municipal ordinances, codes and regulations as they relate to the abatement of nuisances, t ....
