Safety Town is back, program slots are still available Unmute CITY OF BINGHAMTON (WBNG) Safety Town, a Broome County staple, is back after a break in 2020. The national safety education program has been around since the 1960s. The summer program is meant for kindergarten and first graders. Some skills acquired by attendees include internet safety, pool safety, stranger danger, poison control, and more. Experts in these specialty areas come to the site to teach the children the topics and to build community connections. They re really at a great age where they can learn these rules and absorb them and kind of become leaders and be able to teach their younger siblings or teach younger kids at school, says Rachel Gallagher, the program coordinator. May 7, 2021 BOARDMAN Ernest W. Vaupel, 83, passed away after a struggle with cancer, Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Ernest, known by his family and friends as “Ernie,” was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Youngstown, son of the late Harry and Edith Davies Vaupel. He attended South High School in Youngstown and was a lifelong area resident. After high school, Ernie served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 and received an honorable discharge. After serving in the military, he returned to the Youngstown area and worked for East Ohio Gas Company, retiring as an inspector in 1993, after 30 years of service. ....

THE recent snow saw staff at Musselburgh Burgh Primary School and Nursery create some ‘cool’ creations to bring a smile to children’s faces during lockdown. They got to work building their own snowmen and igloos at home during the February holiday, much to the delight of pupils who saw them online. Additional Support Needs (ASN) staff member Amy Scott’s snowman depicted her support for Musselburgh Athletic Football Club, dressed in the team’s blue and white, while Lyndsay Crawford turned fairy godmother to give her snowmen a magical touch. During the coronavirus pandemic, staff members have been involved in a variety of initiatives to keep pupils entertained in lockdown. ....
