With the official beginning of spring (Saturday March 20) less than two weeks away, the weather is certainly indicating a changing of the seasons.
Temperatures have been climbing into the 60’s and 70’sand some mornings the low temperatures have been above freezing.
Much of New Mexico is locked into an exceptional drought and this winter has not delivered what was needed to pull us out of it. Snowpacks remain below normal and the weather pattern is typical of a La Nina winter with the strongest storms passing to the north of New Mexico. ....

For better or worse, in sickness and in health — Raton couple battle rare myeloma together

A husband and wife described as âhigh-school sweethearts from Ratonâ were featured by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences after they both battled a rare form of cancer together.
According to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Jerilee and Ken Gott moved to Arkansas from New Mexico in late 2017 to be closer to two daughters and their grandchildren.
Jerilee was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare cancer of the plasma cells in the blood, in 2009 and began visiting UAMS for regular checkups.
A year after the coupleâs move, Jerileeâs husband Ken was also diagnosed with myeloma. Both are now patients of Dr. Sharmilan Thanendrarajan at UAMS. ....

We had returned home from our trip of a lifetime – Alaska Caravan 2018 – in August, and decided we wanted to keep going. I logged onto the Leisure Travel Vans website to see if there was any possibility of going to the Owners Rally in September.
Our name had been on the waiting list for months with no word about any openings. Something told me I should renew my name on the list, so I did. About an hour later, I received an email from Leisure Travel Vans congratulating me on being selected to come to the 2018 Owners Rally in Winkler, Manitoba! ....

The long-awaited, and now super-abbreviated, prep football season arrived Friday with nine games. Another 17 are scheduled for Saturday, and two more Monday night close out Week 1.
It will be a lightning-quick sprint from start to finish. It is only 28 days from Saturday of this week to April 3, the last day of this weird spring season.

Many schools will play five football games. Some will play four. Closer to home, two games or perhaps even just one. They’ll get a bite or two of this burger and it’ll have to do.
But getting a taste certainly beats going without dinner entirely. ....
